Float Trips and Chili Cook-offs @ Bubba's!!!

Dog days of summer appear to be here and I just got my notice of the upcoming Annual Float Trip. I guess I can stop building that ark that I thought would be needed after all the rain we’ve had….or maybe I can just bring it to the float trip with two beers of each kind on the planet in tow!

The float trip, if you haven’t heard, is on for Saturday, July 31st. We’ll be leaving from Bubba’s at 9 a.m. and will return the following day in the afternoon. For more details, drop an e-mail to chriskelley35@yahoo.com and he’ll fill in the blanks. But, for now, just think about jumping in a tube, grabbin a cold beer or two, and relaxing while the current takes us down stream and to a public barbeque area. The river is clean and nobody’s hair has fallen out in either of the last two outings. It’s a really good time so if you’re around and want to know more, just let me know.

That’s Magazine’s Annual Best of Shanghai Awards

Well, we made a hard push on getting selected as the Best American restaurant in Shanghai in the recent CityWeekend Awards, and we placed 4th which is pretty decent in my book. But now, That’s Magazine has its turn and once again Bubba’s is on the nomination form as Best American. The voting is simple and at the end you just need to register your email address…..so once again…..I am asking for you support! Go now and help out your friendly neighborhood barbeque joint…..here is the link:

Fifth Annual Shanghai Chili Cook-off

Registration is open now for the Fifth Annual Shanghai Chili Cook-off, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 18, from Noon to 6 p.m. This year’s cook-off marks the first year that we’re officially sanctioned by the International Chili Appreciation Society, which means in a nutshell that the winning team from this year’s tournament gets an automatic invite to compete in the grandest of all cook-offs, the Terlingua Chili Championships, which take place each year in Texas in November. Last year our cook-off attracted nearly 700 people and promises to get bigger and bigger and better and better. In addition, this year in addition to music from our original cook-off rockers (Lone Star Wind) we will have a special musical appearance by the Cotton Club’s magical house band, The Royal Amigos.

To register, go online to www.bubbasasia.com and click the chili cook-off banner.

Please note to all teams: in year’s past the teams came early to select their spots for the day. This year, however, I will do a first register/first choice process. In otherwords, teams will get to pick their spots based on the order in which they register to compete in the event. Team fees are 200 rmb, which also needs to be paid to complete the registration process.

Finally, if you are more inclined to participate as a judge this year, please send me an e-mail and I will forward the necessary form for you to complete.

That’s all for now! See you around Bubba’s!
